The Assistant Production Supervisor will work closely with the Operations Manager on the planning and scheduling of all production activities, implementation of safety procedures and the scheduling of equipment maintenance in order to sustain the production schedule. The Assistant Production Supervisor will oversee production activities on a daily basis which includes overseeing production output of machine operators, automatic and manual spinning operators, and machinists. Specifically, this position is responsible for:

  • Implementing manufacturing action plans to support CMS's short and long term production goals
  • Planning, organizing and directing manufacturing and maintenance operations to ensure efficiency throughout the production process
  • In consultation with the Operations Manager and President, establishing group and individual accountabilities throughout the assigned departments for fact-based problem solving and cost reduction
  • Communicating job expectations and giving feedback on results and performance
  • Making recommendations for best practices and ways to streamline the production process, including training on equipment, work flow, safety procedures, through inspection, cleaning and shipping; making recommendations on new techniques where appropriate
  • With the Operations Manager, monitoring overtime in relation to changes in production, while keeping impact of cost on jobs in mind
  • Leading by example in attitude, communication skills, professionalism and work ethic.

Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

  • Prepare production schedule, update production board and, keeping the Operations Manager informed, assign specific duties to employees in order to meet on time delivery requirements.
  • Observe and inspect employee work, machinery and tooling throughout the day to ensure operations conforms to production and processing standards, troubleshooting when necessary
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, work orders and company policies, procedures and other documents to assist employees in doing their jobs correctly
  • Conduct and assist production employees with set ups to ensure they have what is needed to meet customer specifications
  • When needed, able to fill in and operate machines
  • Checking E2 manufacturing system to make sure employees are clocked in on the right jobs and rates are accurate
  • Review production activity reports and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement in order to determine areas needing cost reduction and improvement.
  • Recommend best way to address "hot" jobs when they occur to maintain on time delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as an authorized representative backup to the Quality Manager in conducting first piece and last piece inspections
  • Working with Operations Manager, prioritize scheduled shipments based on meeting customer due dates.
  • Enforce safety by addressing the physical safety environment and employee safety attitudes.
  • Manage building maintenance and scheduled repair requests
  • Create and maintain back log summary reports and other documents on an as needed basis for CMS Operations Management
  • Maintain individual skills, keeping up to date with latest industry news and best practices

Position Qualification Requirements:

Education/Experience/Knowledge:

  • A BS degree in Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years planning, scheduling and managing the production schedule in a manufacturing environment
  • Press machine experience, including the ability and willingness to set up and operate a press
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Prior supervisory experience and/or managing people throughout the production process a plus
  • Knowledge of materials, production processes, quality control costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs and maintenance
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusion or approaches to problems
  • Ability to read, write and communicate efficiently in English in a professional and respectful manner
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel), E2 Manufacturing Software (or similar); AutoCad and/or Solidworks
